Folding Balcony Table

When I moved into an apartment with a small balcony, I wanted to be able to eat at a table outside while still having space on the balcony for other things. After researching options for tables, I found examples that mounted on the balcony railing to be the most efficient use of the space. However, the available options did not look attractive as they mount over top of the railing. Additionally, the building has a rule against attaching anything to the railings.
My design solves these problems by attaching the table-top to two beams that are tension-fit underneath the railing, and features a folding mechanism to easily store the table vertically. The table is built using 1x6 planks that have been sanded for smooth surfaces and edges, and stained to match the deck on the balcony. The table-top and support beams were built off-site based on measurements of the balcony and assembled in place with minimal adjustment needed to properly fit the space.
