Cooling Fan

A cooling fan system was created to cool a thermistor heated by a light bulb to a desired temperature. The fan speeds up or slows down to keep the temperature at the midpoint between room temperature and maximum temperature. The program reads the temperature measurement from the thermistor, then uses PID control to adjust the fan speed according to the difference between the measured temperature and goal temperature.

Response of PID System

The PID response plot was used to determine the dynamic properties of the system:

     Time Delay: 1s
     Rise Time: 8s
     Percent Overshoot: -4.18%
     Settling Time: 17s
     Steady-State Error: ± 0.92%
